Re: How to Install a kill switch/lanyard?
There are three wires coming from the ignition on your dash; the ground, the on wire, and the starter wire. The kill switch needs to be wired into the "on" circuit, so that when turned off, it will turn off the boat. See the diagram below for more info...
This is approximately how things are setup. I'm not sure exactly what's in the "on" circuit, I just know this is the one that needs to be interupted when the kill switch is off.

Thanks...Pretty much what I guessed but without ever really installing one I was wanting to make sure. Anybody have any suggestions (or pics) on where to mount the switch on the boat?

Ground wire to the ignitions switch
You have a 12v into the switch( red I believe) and one coming out to power the gauges and ignition(purple). The other one goes to the starter solenoid.
You want it in the purple coming off the switch , going to the engine(ignition)

Mo: Do you have a pic of your switch so I can see where it's located? Is it factory and if so would you prefer to have it there or somewhere else?

HB,
I'm in work right now and don't have anything like that on this 'puter but will post one in the AM from home. Mine are right below the throttles only inches from your belt(to clip to).

My 1986 302SRI has the merc racing style kill switches. I put the lanyard on them. It's under the dash to the starboard side.
