A N/A 1100 QV4 Merc Racing engine would cost 2-1/2 to 3 times what this new 565 will cost. Not to many builders or buyers gonna be interested at that price point. This is why the 600sci and 700 sci's will be around for a while also.

I'm personally surprised they band-aided the Ram Jet style intake. I know this configuration has caused a lot of gripes with a lot of builders that attempt to get more power out of these motors because of it's deficiencies. Looks like a new upper with two throttle bodies bolted on top of it. Never seen that done before.

...and 20 minutes later, ILMOR introduces a normally-aspirated 7.4 liter engine that makes 570 horsepower, weighs 300 pounds less than the 565, and has about 50% of the bells, whistles and bull$hit of the 565. ILMOR's 570 is based on LS architecture, features variable cam timing, and passed their in-house 24-hour WOT max-load durability test.
Mercury has intoduced a pig that looks like a plumbers' nightmare. The intake looks like something an Arkansas hillbilly would rig up. (No offense intended to our Arkansas members; you could probably do a far better job.)
On the drive front, look for an announcement from ILMOR in about 8 months...

I am continually amazed how much Mercury has dropped the ball by ignoring the potential of the LSx
motors, they are literally digging their own grave..By the time they wake up Ilmor,Raylar,Indmar and everyone else will be way ahead of them, they may own the exclusive 1300hp market but they are gonna lose the everyman market which keeps them afloat..
They are still selling 305s 350s and 383s based on 60 year old technology...
Sad...
