I have a year 2000 454 Magnum MPI (L29) in pieces, ready for assembly after a tickle-up. The problem is down here in New Zealand getting Mercruiser parts is very difficult.
My question is: does anybody know where I can get Generation VI std bore piston rings and head gaskets. There is a part number stamped on the forged piston crown "14097021" if it helps. It appears that the 454 piston rings that I got locally don't fit, at least the oil ring dosen't. The oil ring seems to sit very proud in the grove, almost like the oil ring grove is too shallow.
Anyway.....any help or links via the www. would be greatly appreciated

You can get them from Scoggin Dickey. They are metric rings. If you bought the 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 thay act like they will fit but will not go into the block.

Hastings(brand) #4718 is just a basic cast set of rings but has the right oil ring for you. I just had the same problem and used the "good" plasma rings from one set and the oil rings from this one for a '97 Gen6 with cast pistons but should be the same. Good luck mate.
