Faria Tach Problem...
1999 Sonic 26'
1999 HP500EFI
Stock Faria guages.
First start of the season today, and the tach is stuck on 1000 RPM. It is not moving at all, not with engine RPM, or even a twitch with batteries being turned on and off.
I am thining it is a bad connection at the guage, or a bad guage. I did not have time to T/S today. What do you guys think? After looking online, the Faria guages are not to expensive to replace. Can I put a DVM across the leads going to the guage and read DCV going up and down across the RPM range as I rev the motor? I think this will rule that I have a faulty guage as such.
Thank you everyone for your help.
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, go with Gaffrig. I know. This is my first boat and hopefully last season with it. I do not see the upgrade happening. I know there are better guages out there. I am just not going to upgrade this boat).

Sounds most likely to be a guage problem. But check all your connections first, also does the boat have tach adapters? that is a seperate box to to go between the ignition and the tach.
Also Faria are excellent guages, sure gaffrigs are good but nothing wrong with what u have.

If your guages freeze where they are when you shut the ignition off (dont drop to zero) it may be the power wire just came loose. It should be red or purple and powering all guages. Check the + terminal on the back of the tach with a voltmeter.

It is just the Tach. Everything else is fine. It is stuck at 1000 RPM period, power on, power off, battery on, battery off, ignition on, ignition off. That is leading me to thing guage. Thanks for the replies so far.

If you lose 12v or ground to the guage , it will not know if you turn it on or off , so hence no change. If you lose the sensor wire from the engine , it should at least go to zero when turned on.
And like Dave M. and Vinman said there's nothing wrong with Faria guages. As a matter of fact , out of Gaffrig and Faria guess who has ONLY a 1 year warrentee. Wonder why ?

I talked with Faria Customer Service this afternoon. The guage is enroute to them as we speak, and for $42.50, I get that one fixed or a new guage completely. They think the needle/sweep mechanism froze up/corroded over the winter.
Thanks everyone.
Thanks everyone.
