Re: Approved For Orl
Pat is right on.
Indeed, Active Thunder was among the first of the manufacturers of the Factory 1 fleet. I believe, by the end of 1998 there were 3 Active Thunders racing in factory 1. All three had a cabin, a back seat, and were true to the mold they came from, (as required by rules). Somewhere the rules concerning homologation became a grey area due to the person in charge of it a the time. These, along with Merc Racing forcing teams to change power in order to be competitive all had an impact on the Factory classes.
The original idea was outstanding, and the men that got it going brought realistic Offshore racing to hundreds of thousands of performance boaters that may have never so much as looked at a boat poster before. I too was there when we had 20+ Factory 1 boats at the start, and almost that many F2 boats. It was indeed the heyday of Offshore racing. I miss it.
I've been watching this movement with great interest. I personally hope Brian and the ORL is successful in getting Factory racing back on line. They have an uphill battle, partially due to the same problems that killed the classes to begin with. If they can in fact keep it "Factory" racing, by boat builders that build boats for the true performance/pleasure boaters rather than the one-off race boat builders then they are off to a great start. Keep the speeds to a realistic number. One motor is a great idea, but if you tell us it has to be black, they damned well better be kissing OUR azzez rather than the other way around this time...

Re: Approved For Orl
I went down trough the list to see what everybody else had to say about this and found that the Active guys are the only ones that reacted to it. With the exception of a very little bit from Donzi / Fountian/ Saber. Also Pat you are the only builder that had anything to say. Now what doe's that have to say for the state of affairs?????
