Bravo Blues, but thank you to an AT owner...
I think I have 8 years on these XZ drives, and a few hundred hours without more than fluid changes and 1 rotation (switching them side to side).
Big thanks to John Hope (aka SIDE JOBS, owns 37 AT "Whatever") for making time to open them up today, and verify/diagnose a worn clutch.
I'm good with that.
The gear sets are in perfect condition, and I am replacing the gimbal bearings for good measure. (Original bearings installed on a 2003 boat.)
I've had a couple drive issues my first couple years, twice I've broken a tooth in the upper gear set; and I'll attribute that to my early driving abilities. (warranty)
I had a whole gimbal helmet crack in half and the drive nearly fell off the boat; only held on by the steering rams. (warranty)
I also had a prop come apart, as the blade tore off on a couple rotations, it sliced up the lower case/cavitation plate & drive shower. (pocket)
I sure do love my AT. It looks like I'll have to run the jet boat for Memorial Day Weekend though.
It will be back in the water next week.

Consider myself very fortunate that with five boats, seven outdrives, probably a couple thousand hours, and never had a single drive failure. How 'bout that?
After saying that, my Etec will probably go ca boom tomorrow.
