Default Installed new motor. Need help with prop size 26'ao

97 26' AO. 496 dynoed at 608hp 596tq. I was told I had a bravo 1 xr outdrive. I have tried 10 diff props. Have it narrowed down to a 25px13.5.d I loose bite on crest but I plain off at quarter throttle and hit 74mph at 5400 rpm in rough water. I tried a 14.5 diameter 25p and it wouldn't plain off. What would going to a 14 diameter do. Does anyone have similar hp and outdrive. Maybe I could try what your running. Thanks for any input.

I have a 95 with a 509 im guessing 550 hp. I have a bravo 1 with a 28 pitch bravo 4 blade prop. It planes at under half throttle and my best is 78mph on gps @ 5000 rpm. I have trouble getting it to 5500 rpms. It is running a little rich it needs a little tune. I think I can easily get in the 80s with some tune!

What diameter is it? I have a 4 blade 29x14.5 custom made by OKC prop shop and it won't plain off my boat. Worked great with 1200hp motor but I'm only running a 608hp. All the props I tried that were 14.5 or 15 diameter either wouldn't plain off or struggled to plain. Going to try a 13 3/4 x25 and see if that helps. I'm sure gearing comes into play somewhere but I dont know how to tell what gearing I have. I want to say the guy I bought the boat from said it was 1:36 but not sure.

I believe the bravo 1 28 four blade diameter is 15.25. The bravo 1 and the bravo xr are probably geared different too

My boat does not like a 14.5 or a 15. Tried a 23x14.5 and only got 62mph at 5000. Throw the 25x13.5 on and get 70mph at 5300 in smooth water and hit 74 in rough water. Just can't turn fast or stay in the throttle when you take off or you lose bite. I need to know what would be the lowest diameter I should run on my boat to keep bite. I am taking my 29p 4 blade cleaver to the prop shop and having them turn it down to a 14 diameter so hopefully that won't be too much. Measured it again and it's actually 14 3/4 diameter.

Just thought I would give a update. I have been trying round ear three blade and four blade props and boat just didn't want to turn a 14.5 to 15 diameter. The boat came with a cleaver so I found a 24p x15.25 hydromotive 4 blade cleaver. Jumps out of the hole half throttle. No slipping on take off or turns. Got 74 mph at 5500 rpm on gps. With two people in the boat on smooth water. Took it to chop with four people in it and got 76mph at 5000 rpm. I was told I could run the motor to 6000 rpm but do I have to max out my rpm. Was told I needed a prop that would max out my rpm range so it's not lugging the motor at slower speeds but my torque range is 550 at 3000 rpm 596 at 4800 and drops back to 550 at 5800 rpm. My hp is 608 at 5800.

Just thought I would give another update. With the smaller diameter props I had run a -1 or 0 trim. With the 15.25 prop I bought I can run it at 4. Took it out with 5 people and a full cooler in the boat and got 79mph on gps. Hope this thread can help someone else in the future. Just from my experience a large diameter 4 blade cleaver style prop seems to work best on these boats.

I am running a blown 509 (never dyno'd guessing 700-750 HP?) with an Imco SC drive. I run a Hydromotive 28 pitch 5 blade prop, this prop really is the best of both worlds-- planes easy & great top speed (102mph @ 6000 rpm on GPS) Hope this helps you
