I hand carryed 3 c72's yesterday, I most be getting weak or the big ones with 11 clutch packs weigh way more then 90 lbs. In 1995 is when Bobby started to make the bilges smaller and the cockpits bigger on the 36's.

Seems everytime someone talks about a boat or a drive....we see the Konrad peeps come out and sell the product... It's a good product.
What I'm trying to say is don't just dump $30+K on a drive package (or whatever the cost is) without doing your research and due diligence first...
Maybe that's why customers said they liked me when I was a mechanic...I called it straight and never sold a load of goods...and maybe that's why the service manager was always pissed because I wasn't selling snow to an eskimo...it's never just black and white...

If you do a total swap you need to figure out X dimensions and potentially need to modify the boat, maybe a little...maybe a LOT.... If you do the kit with the trans in the extension box you're shifting the weight aft with the 90 lb transmission and heavier drive...Now you also have X-dimension issues...as you go back you have to go up...you can't figure this out without testing it.. In addition to all this....you also now need to figure 50-75 more HP in your engine build to account for the parasitic losses of the new drive..
Jamie from lakeside should jump on this. I thought they did a 33' Konrad conversion?

Of all the people I spoke with, not one mentioned anything about any sorts of negative changes in how their boat planed or handled. In fact, most expressed initial reservation about the 540 being shorter and concern that the boat would be hard to get on plane. Universally I got the same story- not only did the boat plane as well or better, everyone I spoke with picked up a few MPH. Most attributed this to the fact that the x-dimensions on many boats in the 10-plus year-old range were more conservative and modern propeller design has taken the place of deeper drives. Not one took avail of the optional spacers.
I understand your comment about not wanting to be the first. At the same time, the drive has been put on many similar boats and more importantly, on to many boats with less neutral handling charachteristics that the Apache.

Yes we did... Jay is a bit tied up with a paint job for a few hours. I will save this for him when he gets in later to respond. Kristin

I saw the boat running it Patchogue this summer and it rides very well..
The package is around 20K. Transmissions would add to that cost. I looked at all the options and it came down to a decision between IIIa's and the 540's. First, I didn't want to dump that kind of money into an obsolete drive system. Second, I couldn't find a single person to say one remotely negative thing about the Konrad setup. The dollar difference between having a brand new drive and buying a nice set of IIa's and gimbals and having it all gone thru was even.

Second, I can see the advantage in speed from TRS to Konrad since the lower unit is a better design...but the Bravo Conversion is going to be slower and requires more power to turn the drivetrane...
I'm not bashing them...just saying it's not a silver bullet for every app...
Which all goes back to the beginning.....Konrad wasn't even a topic of the thread... The guy bought a 28 Apache....

WickedWon didn't notch his transom because he wanted all the running hull length he could get, it steered good. I liked the 28 Pantera TNT did with the big power and a 3A years ago, cool setup. But a big powered dry #6 28 APACHE would be way fun.
