We all know Fountains are faster than their counterparts when the water is relatively calm. When it gets really snotty the boats that are a little slower will just keep going and not worry about slowing down. what good is 5 extra mph if you can only use it comfortably when the water is calm???
I'll second that.

Any stepped bottom boat is going to be faster than a conventional V (w/same power/size). And honestly, I dont think the fountain would have to back down in any type of water you guys are refering too. "sloppy" water to me is wind chop and maybe some confused water. Add some swells to it and you're talking a different story.

The issues with the Fountain is the fact that it's built for speed. You're always going to sacrafice something to get something else. more speed equals lighter layup. Lighter layup means a bit more rattling and jolting. The baja is a heavier and slower but has a higher freeboard and is true to it's length. You're actually getting a bigger boat w/the 25' outlaw.

Just my .02

Actually the Baja is lighter, 4750 lbs. vs. 5150 lbs. for the Fountain.
Fountain website lists the 27 with the 496 HO at 68+ mph. If thats the case I can't imagine the Outlaw being any slower than that. I have a friend with a 25 Outlaw that we take out off the coast at Southport and beat the living sh@t out of it and it hasn't had a single problem.
I personally will take the more attractive and cost effective Outlaw.
