What Type Of Upgrades Has Any Of You Had To Up The Performance Of The 330 Hp 7.4's. My Good Friend Just Bought A 1999 29 Ol, Mint Condition, With The Twin 330's. He Is Upset With The Low To Mid 60mph Speeds. Any Thoughts That Will Not Destroy Reliability At A Reasonable Cost. Tia For Your Ideas.

Did he check speeds with GPS? I have the same stock set-up on a 1997 model and GPS'd @ 69-70. My speedo is about 10 mph off.

I have a 99 with 385 a side on Imco shorties, labbed propellers, Dana exhaust & a host of other tweaks & I'm lucky to see 75 on a cold day with no fuel & big choppy water.
There are really no performance mods for a 330 hp 454 that do not cost over $1500 a side that will gain anything in the speed department.
Your friends best bet is to have the propellers labbed by a REPUTABLE shop. He may see 2 more mph for about $800.

My 29 with 310's will run 63-64 gps. I wouldnt mess with upgrading the 310's. They are reliable as hell and not really meant to upgrade.

I agree with 'JasonSmith', get the props labbed and put K&N filters in. I had a '99 H2X with the 7.4 310HP, after many hours of research into new heads, exhaust, computer upgrades etc it was not worth the extra money for a few mph more. If the hull & drives are in good shape it would be better to repower with new motors. I would add the 496 mags and upgrade the cam and computer to make them ho's, who should be around 78-80 then.

Thanks For The Input, Which Is Pretty Much What I Had Already Told Him. He Likes To Run A Local River Nearby So I Think The Lab Props Are A Bad Idea. Looks Like He May Be Upgrading Boats If Speed Is A Big Issue.

My handheld is always faster than the Livorsi gauge I have. I'm going to hook the handheld to the Livorsi gauge & go faster with minimal effort.
