Default 650 hp H2X?

I have a 2000 H2X with a 454 mag, owned since new. Love the boat and layout, works perfectly for me. I'm in a wheelchair so the low seats and small cockpit make it easy for me to get in and out and move around in it without my chair.

After 8 years its time for a change, thought about a 29 Warlock, but have decided a repower and new vinyl is the way to go!

Found a 502 bored out to 540 CI by MRD engines in new york. 40 hours on the motor, 650 HP for $15,000. Guy is stepping up to new bigger power. Engine guy says it can mate up to the bravo drive, being a light boat (3800lbs), shouldn't overload the drive.

Any thoughts on the idea, or the price?
thanks!
RYAN

Thats a lot of HP for such a small boat. We have a 22' Donzi with a 502 bulit up to about 500hp and it is a hand full! Granted it has a blackhawk drive. Maybe being a smaller boat it wont overload the drive as much but that is still a lot of HP for a bravo. Also, is your Bravo an XR? If not then no way. We have blown two XRs in our Formula with 600's in a years time

You will need full hydraulic steering & a set of k-planes. It would be a fun boat. You'll spend another $15k + on getting the right parts to make it all work togather.
If you don't have an XR drive, you'll need to upgrade your drive. While you are doing that you should switch the gear ratio to 1.36. This will allow you to spin a smaller pitch propeller. Bravos don't like propellers much higher in pitch than 32".Otherwise they blow out. I'm assuming you currently have a 3 blade wheel. If that is true, you'll want to get a 4 blade wheel.
Personally, I would put on a 2" IMCO shortened drive & re-build the 454, if it is a 454 MPI MAG. That would be the 385 HP motor.
650 is a pretty good amount of HP for that boat. You'll also find it could be pretty hard to get insurance if you are over 500 pshp.

Alex´s 1999H2x (from Germany) has a 2002 575 with a Superchiller on it, so it has around 650 hp. He rates it at 85 mph, and he always there when we are running fast, whatever the conditions and chop. The boat runs great, but he is a very good driver, and gets the best out of it while not breaking anything.
He runs extended instatrim tab (Victory) and a stock Bravo 1 drive with Imco external steering. He has replaced the labbed 28" Bavo with a 30" since fitting the superchiller.
He hasn´t had any problems with the drive, yet!

My '98 H2X was a handful with similar HP and no hydraulic steering. When I put the full hydraulic system on, it was like night and day. I would say that is a must if you are going to run that much HP in the H2X. I am still running small tabs, but that has not been a problem.

I can run 80mph on the GPS at 5lbs of boost with minimal to no chine walk spinning a 28p 4blade labbed Bravo. It will run 85-86mph at 8lbs of boost, but it does start to dance a bit at that speed!

Overall, I have no complaints with the set up.
