New Boat Purchase??? Hammer!!
I am looking at a still new 2000 Hammer with the 7.4mpi. I have got the dealer to 29K with the trailor, prep fees, 48 month dealer extended warrenty on engine and drive. I see some used hammers in the area with 40 -60 hours for a few less dollars.
Is that good? Or can I get some more out of them?
I live 2mi from the river, 1 stop light and only three back streets. Do you think I can yank it out of the water with my cherokee 4.0L or my ranger 3.0L in 4LOW. I pulled a 95 hotshot last month with with my jeep for a short distance. I wouldn't want to go a 100mi though.
Thanks All,

Hey Patrick,
I'd figure the boat, fuel, gear and anluminum two-axle trailer should weigh around 4700-4900lbs. You should have no problem with either of your vehicles. You may be close to the max, but for short distance should be no problem.
Just for your information and comparrison, I purchased a 2000 Hammer, new in 2000, with a 350Mag for 25,400 plus trailer, tax, etc.....
With the 7.4L and trailer your price isn't too far off. However, for a 2000 model(now being 2002) I would think you could go just a bit less with a little work.

Hope this helps. A friend of mind is buying a new leftover 2000 model 232, cuddy with 7.4 MPI and Eagle Trailer. Price is $32,500.
This is as low as the dealer would go.
The price you are getting on the hammer based on the above my be a couple of thousand high. It's had to say for sure. You are close, if it feels good DO IT.
My first Baja was a 212 Islander. Weights about the same as the hammer. I pulled it with a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee V-8. No problem at all with power or brakes. It did squat bad and you could not see anything behind you, the mirrors did not extend out enough.
God luck

New Boat Purchase??? Hammer!!
I just purchased a new 2001 Hammer on a steel tandem axle trailer for 31,000. There was one at a local dealer and the lowest I could get him to was 32,900, and was going to cost another 1,000 to add Captains Call exhaust. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Some come with options that others don't. The one I bought had Captains Call and the other one didn't. The other one had the Boss package, but the one I bought didn't. I towed this boat across several states with a Chevy Blazer with a 4.3 engine. It handled it fine.

I just traded in my hammer, great boat, lots of fun. i got mine for 32,500 with the boss pakage and eagle trailer. I pulled it with a 94 toyota pickup. I never pulled it far, only about 10 miles but I never had a problem. As a matter of fact it was easier on my truck than the seadoo 18` that i pulled, because of the fact that the trailer under the baja had brakes.
