That is correct, the boat was custom ordered through shipyard marine in oshkosh, Wisconsin. I have seen this boat run, and it came from the factory with labbed 34 maximus props. It would only do 83 gps. The owner is going to try 30and 32s. I also think it was a mistake to get the sportmasters. He probably lost a few mph with that choice.

you guys are right on, i am the service writer for shipyard marine in Oshkosh WI, The boat was ordered with sportmasters because the owner thought they looked better...So far we have gone from 32's to 30's and will be trying some 28's. it is a hell of a boat to dial in but we feel when its all said and done the boat will run 86-88 all day...its kind of cool to say we sold the last real baja ever, and that it is staying local....new owners are awsome people and are enjoying the boat very much...

Way cool piece of history!
My favorite Baja.
And that thing is flying!
Im through Bucyrus all the time and always think of its history when Baja and Checkmate were at full chat!
Both buildings are still there.

and still is a local boat...
.... ended up with 28P 15 1/4 maximus props, went back in a couple times to get right to the limit....30P that were thinned out were faster but there was a noticeable hole shot and mid range loss.... and its's a pretty babied boat... currently only has 4 hours above 4500rpm.... she runs out 82-84 any and all day, light loads and perfect water conditions she will run out at 88...

A friend took pictures of the old Baja facility in Bucyrus...so sad. I think back to all the men and women who went to work there everyday...and now it's no more.

I used to do a lot of traveling through rural America for work and motorcycle riding. It is stunning when you see all the empty plants, and the people didn't go away so what do they do after the plant closes.
