Default 29 outlaw

Hello everyone, I'm new here but not new to Baja boats. I just sold my 01 272, and am looking at a 99 29 outlaw with twin 454mpi's. The owner says they are 330 mercs, but I suspect they are 310hp each. Real nice boat from what I can see with under 150 hrs for under 40k, garaged since new one owner. What kind of performance(real) can I expect. My friend says it will be a slug without the mag motors. Who has real world experince with this boat and good and bad about it. I'm about to finalize the deal within the next week. Thanks

Con,

Well I don't have a 29 but a 322 with twin 454's (310's) 23" props and I push it 70mph at the top end. I would expect the 29 to hit 72-74mph.

My 29 originally had 310's when I bought it. You can expect an honest 62-65 mph depending on the props. I changed the 310's out for 502's after two hours and picked up about 10 mph.It was a great boat and that sounds like a pretty good deal. Good Luck with it.

I have a '99 with twin mags, and I've seen 73 gps with 4 blade props, 76 with 3 blades. Mags are 385 hp each. I have to agree that the non mags are gonna be mid 60's at best.

Mine is for sale by the way....

I figured it was mid 60's at best, my main concern is planing, not so much the topend, but I would prefer the mags by all means, owever I've been looking for several months and it seems the best buy for my money.

Hole shot 4 blades are the only way to go.

There is a very clean 29 with 385's on ebay right now, 150 hrs. Everyone above is right about the speed with 310's 62-64. Not sure how that 322 is going 70mph with 310's but nice work?!!

I sold 3 29's this year one with 385's 70-72, and two with 496 MAGS 69-71. All GPS numbers.

I had a 29 w/7.4's....low 60's is all it would really do.

....although the faria speedo would read 72

Are the shortblocks on the 454's the same between the mag and 310mpi, can the cylinder heads and cams be swapped out for the extra hp? I did see the boat on ebay she's in oregon in in pennsylvania to bad it looks sweet

The MAG has a 4bolt main and the 310 is a two bolt. I am sure that someone would know more than me, but im sure a cam and other work will up the HP. I would think it would be much cheaper and less time consuming to find a boat with the power already in it!
