Default Outlaw 24 top speed only 52???? help

Need some help here. I have a 98 Outlaw 24 with a 502 mag. Had it out over the weekend and it just doesnt seem to be that quick and I dont get why. I have a bravo 1 1.5 drive, Mirage plus 23p prop and I was only hitting 52mph on gps at 4500 rpm. I did have 4 people on board and probably 3/4 tank but that doesnt seem like it would drop mph from where it should be which from what I am seeing should be mid 60's??? Any suggestions as to what to look for or what may be going on. I am completely baffled.

Thanks

The extra weight definitely doesn't help, that's still slow though. How many hours are on the engine? Have you done a compression test?

Havent done a comp test. Motor has 220 hours on it. Boat came from Illinois and was purchased new by my father in law. I bought it off him in the fall and brought it out to RI.

It could be down on power, but 220 hours isn't that much.

Just for info, my buddy has a 272 with a 502 mag from about that year, and he's in the upper 60s on gps. Not sure of his rpms, but he's bounced it off of the rev limiter on good days.

by chance were you running with your trim tabs down to help with the load? the weight and extra drag from the tabs might slow you down into that range....just shootin in the dark tho

Seems way low. Grandfather has a '92 24' OL w/454 mag motor, bravo, and 21P prop. I have no trouble getting to 65 with two people and 3/4 tank. Sorry, don't recall the rpms, but this is a completely stock boat with about 300hrs on it (he bought it new).

What was your father in law getting out of it?

If you stored it outside, check your bilges- sounds stupid - but........i towed my 80mph boat from fl. To san diego with the drain plug out. Took it out a couple times, always removing the plug. It was noticably slow-i was ready to take it to the shop when kneeling to check my prop i noticed color inside my drain hole .........a @#$# plastic plug fitting perfect from the inside. I cleared it and nearly an hour later it was empty! ........and thats how a 1000lbs+/- of florida rain water got to so. Cal. And my speed was back
