Default 454 mag carbed

Are these good motors. Found a boat with twin and 220 hours. Same boat as mine for a friend. I have fuel 454 mags 385 hp. I believe the carbed versoins are 365hp.
It runs 23 props versu my 25 in the boss 302. I can't imagine much difference in speed if that is the case. Are carbed going to be that much of a headache to re-sell again later??

I think the usual carb variety in that generation are 330 hp (non Magnum) Kragar. Mags are 365 or something. Interestingly, I raced (and I slightly had the edge, but it was close) a 22' Liberator this weekend with a carbed 454 Mag. My boat is bigger, and I assume heavier, so there is a bit of a difference in the two motors I guess. His might have been an OMC though, not sure.

If the boat's a good deal, it would be a good candidate for supercharging if it's a forged motor.

I had 365 mags also and they are a forged engine!! Both of mine dropped valves in #7 the port one didn't do any real damage at 3700 rpm the starboard one exploded at 5000 hence the reason I know have 502's.. But I had about 400 hrs on them when the starboard engine grenaded, and my boat ran really well with those engines up to that point!!!

They are 365 hp. Just wanted to make sure they were good. Also the 1997 motors are which generation? It runs 23 props to my 25 props. Surprised that 40hp would make that difference.

Well, he bought the boat. 97 Boss 302 with 216 hours on motors. 218 on starboard. I suspect due to no power steering belt on port motor. What generation 454 mags would these be with V belts? Can they still be Gen 6 or 5s?
Headliner is falling down so it needs to be re-glued. Need to pull props to see if they are solid hub or rubber hubs. it runs 23 pitch where mine runs 25(his is carbed and mine is fuelie)
A few differences between his 97 and my 98. Some are to is benifit and some to mine. The fron bolsters on his seem to have a better latch system than the newer ones. His head door opens the opposite way to mine and is a better option in my opinion. He is missing leather in the V Birth and his trim switch is an add on the throtle and not built in. Will be curious to see the performance difference if any between the 2 with mine only being 20hp more than his a side.

I would say they will run side by side, you may get a nose on him with the extra HP but not much!!!
