Have you been in other 272's Zeke? I'd say you're the one with questionable numbers. If you have/had 450 HP and can't get that tub over 63 MPH somethings wrong with your setup.

And I guess that "sporty drive" must be slowing you down too? How is it the 25OL has "only" 85 HP more than you claim yet is running 12 MPH faster than you? My 502 is in the 450+ HP range and will run right at 70 in perfect conditions. 66 MPH, GPS, ANYTIME.

I'm surprised arcticfriends (smitty) hasn't chimed in yet...he has tried just about every combo and has all the results. He posted it somewhere on here before.

I don't think that jab was aimed at you, it was a carryover from a previous discussion about speeds, I fully believe the speeds you are claiming are honest gps speeds, you have massaged everything nice without pouring tons of money in and fine tuned a prop and are now seeing 66 everyday and 70 I assume running on fumes, perfect air etc. For the past 10 years when this question pops up though there is always a couple guys pop up with claims there bone stock 272 or 25 o/l runs 70-72mph with completely stock mag 502 or 496 power , un tweaked, 23 pitch mirage plus etc . Then some poor bastard can't understand why his 62 mph Baja that he has re-propped and did small tweaks on that now runs 65 or 66 is 7 mph slower than someone elses bone stock Baja , because sometimes the truth seems to get stretched or someone needs to buy a gps and quit believing there dreameter. I have paced at least 20 BONE stock 272's and 25 OL with my 272 and on my own GPS in everyday conditions I have yet to see one running anywhere in the 70's without some extra hp and mid 60's seems to be the norm, funny thing is I talk to these guys on the beach and they always claim they run high 60's, low 70's. My 2000 272 ran 62 mph stock with 502 mag, loaded down, 3/4 tank of gas, 4 passengers,, on fumes, no passengers with best prop and no tweaks to motor what so ever it ran mid 60's (I did NOT own a GPS back then though).
Hp vs speed:
1100 hp-my 272 runs 100 mph with 32 labbed at 6000 rpm's with 1.50 gear
1050 hp pulley-runs 96 mph touching rev limiter at 6200 with 30 pitch labbed and tweaked by Cutting edge
old motor-ran:
950 hp-ran 92 mph empty/89 mph with full tank of gas and 4 passengers
with blower belt off (I dynoed it to run either way)
74-76 mph with 650 hp under absolutely perfect conditions 26 labbed at 5400, very finicky though to load and temp changes, will slow down to 70-72 on real hot day running with heavy load
With un-dynoed 502 with 8 psi of boost ran 75-78 or so, with first 540 that only made 690 blown hp on the dyno it ran 78-79 mph or so years ago but later ran 84-85 with more timing and boost (not dynoed at that point though)
My posted hp numbers were all actual dyno numbers BUT with the more generous j607 correction factor and no acccesories so you could probably take 50-75 hp off those numbers if you were comparing to merc racings modern sae rating on there blue motors.
Smitty
One other factor, is most my speeds have been in freshwater at 700-1100 feet above sea level so I am sure you salt water/sea level guys might be a titch fatser with equal hp.

Comparing my #'s to articfriends, with my 400ft higher elevation i would say my #'s are pretty accurate and comparable to his. And my dreamo meter always showed 5-6 mph faster than my gps.
Last CE 26 i ran i was 73.9 at 5900 which is too high rpm i need to be at 5500.
But with that prop full of fuel, 2 big coolers 6 adults i can still pull 71 on gps at 5800.
My prop will be sent back to CE to get my rpm back down over winter
