I always tell people buy the biggest that you can afford because it won't take you long before you get tired of the smaller boat and want a bigger one.. 2'itis syndrome we all have had it!!!
Totally agree.... I have the biggest strongest boat I can afford... lol

You can't have too much boat on Lake Erie... shes snotty at times, I have yet to be held back by waves, in the Baja or the Cig, then again, i am a tad nuts too...

What if you have 9 or 14 foot itis?

If he is moving up from a 20' proline... a 280 would be a monster.

Nahh I spend my summer on everyone else's big express cruisers, mainly a 37 and 48 ..... I operate alone though, so 32 is about the most I would consider for myself, because that seems like its pushing it to operate a lone 90% of the time, especially when I like to go out when it is windy.... .The 29 seems great, I will email the guy

I will go in damn near anything, especially with my 35 footer... the 32 Baja went in anything also, every time... and I am still here....

its not that hard to operate a 32+ footer by yourself too much, its all about getting used to it..

I am more worried about tight docking than anything, I can do everything else easy, I would just leave lines tied to the bow at all times, no fricken way I would walk out there when no one is at the wheel, well at least to for a while, just too many risks IMO. I have operated a 28 on my own, thats the biggest though.

So this 280 would be perfect for you.
http://kalamazoo.craigslist.org/boa/3549097538.html

It's just a hair bigger than a 29OL with alot more cockpit space.
