Questions on my new motor
Hello,
I have a 2006 Baja 275. It originally came with the 8.1 496 mag. I had some major engine issues this past year so I decided to have it taken out. I purchased a new 2017 8.2 496 mag HO direct from mercury. I am having a local mercury certified dealer do the install in a couple weeks. I want to make sure I properly break in the motor once it is installed, is there a proper process for this?
I am also curious why the 496 has moved from an 8.1 to an 8.2.....what are the differences?
Thanks!

8.1 is a 496. 8.2 is a 502. My rule of thumb is ~5-10 hours of various RPM range (nothing extended for long runs) but in case that doesn't work pin it to win it.

Your new motor will come with an owners manual and tell you all about how to do it. the dealer will also be a source of info

Depends what prop you have already.. I'd say that the right prop for your setup would be a Mirage plus 23P or a labbed 25p or for 4 blade props a bravo 1 22P or labbed 24P.

The new 8.2 has not much to do with the old 496 engine!
Did you have an 8.2 Mag Ho??
with 430 HP you can use 23 mirage Plus,24 Bravo but better an 23 Revolution!
This is best for the 275!
Wit Whipple update you can use 25 Mirage or 25 Revo. Michael
