offshore mounts on a 29 outlaw
would offshore mounts on a early 29 outlaw with 454 mags be factory? or added in later? I have heard that some of the 29's with cracked stringer's were repaired then they installed the offshore mounts, if so would you be scared of a boat like this? thanks for any info

I would not worry, if its a 97 and has no evidence of cracking , I donn't think it will start now, and the ones repaired by Baja were suposed to be revised to be stronger

mark,
if it has offshore mounts,
i would have no worries with
stringer failures, i've never heard
of stringer failures on units with
offshore mounts, like you said,
i have heard of offshore mounts
being added when fixing broken
stringers.

Hey thanks for the replies, I have been looking at some 29's for some time now, ran across one that has 454 mags and it has offshore mounts added{i am guessing they were added}, the stringer near the trim pump and L bracket looks thicker than other 29's i have looked at, looks like a great repair, you would not even know unless you were looking for it. I have heard that if Baja got a boat in they would pull the engines and repair the stringer then add offshore mounts, there was not a lot of room in there with the mounts and the Corsa quick and quiet, really tight!!! has anyone heard of repeated failure on this stringer problem on the same boat?

Just had mine repaired. They put in "GIL" offshore mounts. I won't know about durability until mid summer, I guess. One thing concerns me a little. The fact that the Gils will not allow engine alignment. That is to say they better be installed properly the first time. My dealer used a short block to align these things, and they complained that it took them many hours to get it right.
Will keep you posted about durability. Running around on Lakes Erie and St Clair will be a very good proving ground for the repair.

Glad to hear they got your boat repaired, I have heard the same thing about alignment with the offshore mounts, maybe someone will come up with some better idea on making these mounts more adjustable, I might try to call Baja and see what they say about this, so far every 29 that has had a problem and was repaired by the factory,[at least the ones I hear about] has not had the problem pop back. that would be a very expensive repair if it came out of pocket!!!!!
