GETTIN' BYE,

Last year I ran 24 B1s. Great hole shot and handling. Can run 74 @5200 normal load. Just bought a pair of 26 B1s that I'll send to Darrin for "magic".

Rule of thumb. The higher the HP the more the depreciation.

I put a lot into our boat and will take a bath when I sell, I did all the nonengine building items myself.

Other things to consider. Do you have external steering? Add $2,500 to $6,000 depending on the system and labor.

Exhaust. Add $1,500 on up each for upgrades. Best bang for the buck in my opinion is Stainless Marine.

Your boat should do as follows give or take a couple mph:

454 mag (385hp) 70mph
502 mag (415hp) 75mph
500 HP (475 hp) 80mph

Good luck

bajadude,

I am leaning toward the 26s. May be a little much prior to labbing but after I think should be just about right. Somewhere between 5000 & 5200 I am hoping.

I am afraid that with 24s I will be at or very near the rev limiters.

Trial & error.

Mark,

You're right about the 24s. If I'm light, I bang against the rev limiters a lot. Hoping the labbed 26s will do the trick. I'd also like to try Mirages, but I've heard its tougher to get on plane and they tend to blow out. The B1s handle great.

No doubt 500efis all the way took out 502s out of my 01 33 and put in 500s everything plugs right in. If you leave them stock I don't think it hurts the resale although any type of supercharger will hurt resale, plus you will also need at least XR drives. The efis are great I can't say that enough does the $ 3500.00 include headers major consideration CMIs will set you back 2600 to 3500 depending on who you know. Just the look of 500s and CMIs to me is worth alot. As far as speed goes about 80mph or so with a few tricks of the trade see liquid asset for details HAHA LIQUID. Got to go out of town will check back monday let me or liquid know if you need anymore info.

bajadude,

Is your 74mph GPS, radar, or speedo? If speedo, is it the Gaffrig liquid filled or another brand? Gaffrig's are very accurate. Usually no more than 1 - 2 mph optimistic.

Figured you % of slip for 74mph @ 5200 at right at 6 % which is very good for a boat of our type. Thus my inquiry as to your "true" speed. Would love to get my slip % down some. I am sure just going from a 3 blade to the 4 will help in this are.

Yes I can spin the 3 blades very easily getting onto plane. Have to be somewhat slow and carefull.

GAMEMAN,

Tricks of the trade? Are there such things? If so please, either you or liquid assest, share with me.

33's with blue motors are equipt
with offshore motor mounts,
what you have will work though.
Like bajalion has mentioned,
you will want external steering.

High maintenance, aside from
the bad batch of valve springs
in the 98' and 99' models.
I don't think there any higher
maint. than the black motors.

I was the victim of the valve spring
bug, since then, there hasn't been any
"maintenance issue"

You can't go wrong with either
the carb or efi, both are good units.

GETTIN' BYE and baja dude,
have you guys had you valve springs
checked ? if not, you might want to.

liquid asset,
What's wrong with the carbed 500's

my .02

GETTIN' BYE, it was on GPS with great conditions. Don't forget, I've got a '33, so I'm a little lighter.

jt29olhp500s, plan on checking the valve springs this spring. Checked them from the top last year and they looked good. Got it in the budget to replace them and the exhaust in a year (CMI) if the springs make it
