Repowering 33 Outlaw
I am repowering my 33 outlaw and have sold my 7.4L MPI's. Will 500HP's use the same motor mounts as the 7.4's and if so are they heavy enough to handle the extra torque? Would you guys spend $3500/ engine more for 500HP's over 502 MPI's?

502's are nice but 500hp's are more nice. You will probably have a higher resale value if you go to the 500hp's. This may be an isolated case because I only have one friend who has 500 hp's in his boat, (all of my other friends have 502 mags or 454's) but his 500 hp's are high maintenance, I personally think the 502's are indestructable as far as reliability, just my opinion, but that doesn't mean much. I'm sure there are many other people out there that have 500 hp's and they are reliable for them. My buddy with the 500 hp's runs his boat pretty hard. All I know is that he is constantly working on them. Maybe this will help. I can say when his boat is running it is a rocket. Also if you are going to go with the 500 hp's I would invest in offshore motor mounts if you don't already have them. Thanks - Eric

HP 500s high maintenance????????????????
Twin 1999 HP 500s carbed, approaching 300hrs. Oil - filters - 1 set of spark plugs that they did not really need.
What more can you ask for?

Liquid asset- top speed was 59.8 @ 4400 rpm. I bought the boat new very reasonalbe with the intention of repowering if I didn't like the speed. It was going to be another $32000 retail to upgrade to 502 EFI's.
BigE- You bring up a good point that I always look at when buying a boat or vehicle, resale value. I have heard people say at 200 hour to check the top end of the 500HP's just for routine maintainence
What do you guys think would be the most dependable and reliable of the two?
