502 mpi adjustable fuel pressure regulator (Post #1)


Does any one have excpience with this, how hard is the install? Can anyone explain it? I've installed headers and flame arrestor and I think I can avoid having my ecu done by doing this

Not sure if your going to need it,,, I put Gil magnum choice headers and a K and N flame arrestor on and it put the motor right where it needed to be,,,, run it for a blast and take a look at the plugs,,, you might not need to do anything.

I installed one on mine. It is very difiicult to get too, but what isn't on a boat. The regulator in under the exhaust manifold on the port side of the engine. It is enclosed in a box that you will have to modify for it to fit in. Once you get the regulator off it is a piece of cake from there on out until it is time to re-install it. I also added a fuel pressure gauge to be able to set it by, and keep an eye on it just in case the jamb nut came loose and it moved. The reason I added mine was because all I did at one time I thought I might need it. I have the Lightning Headers, Re-programmed ECU, Vortech flame arrestor, and MSD box. All of which make the engine run leaner. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, is it not under the cool fuel cover on the starboard side?

If your talking about right beside the sea-water pump, that is the water seperator filter. If you stahnd completely on your head and look on the port side you will see it.

What pressure do you guys run them @ on a 502?

I'm pretty sure mine is set at 42 psi. I will check this weekend, I'm finishing up with my sea strainer. I will need to start it and check for leaks. I will let you know if it is anything different.

AZ Speed & Marine told me to set mine at 48psi after my ECU was re-programmed.

How do you guys check fuel pressure?

I installed a fuel pressure gauge. This is the easiest way to keep up with pressure all the time. I had to get a special hose made to adapt to the stock fitting but it worked out well.
