I've heard it would be toward the end of the 2003 model year. Does anybody know when you would be able to order one with the delta pad?

From articles I have read, I was under the impression it was already in place. I have noticed many changes on the new 25 Outlaws I have seen lately in the transom area.

Interesting stuff. I am especially suprised by the areodynamic testing they are doing and the results seen from that with the 30 Outlaw.

Looks like many good things to come.

The Powerboat test on the 33' indicated that is was in production, but they ran a correction the following month saying that it wouldn't be in production until October. I guess their test was on a pre-production boat.

Have you heard if it's going to add any speed or not? The test Powerboat did seemed like it was pretty compareable to what it would run without the pad. The 30' should be about ready to order by now shouldn't it? I've heard they were expecting 82 mph with twin 496 HO's.

In terms of speed, they got 75 with 496 HOs spinning 30B1s! I know these tests are always run under ideal conditions, but that seems like a pretty decent top end with big props. As a comparison, I get around 74 with HP500s and 24 / 26 B1s.
I wonder if they changed the X as well? Seems like big props for a non-steped (low X) hull.

Like they said in the test, the only way to know is to run 2 boats side by side (pad and no pad) and compare the results. But it does look like it helped.

Here's a link to the test if anyone missed it:

Red face

If you look closely at the transom view you"ll notice the extended k planes. Baja puts those on boats with extension boxes. Boats with extension boxes run at a higher x explaining the big wheels. I doubt the dinky eight inch wide delta pad gives the boat much of anything except something to talk about on forums like these. My friends 33 w 496 ho's runs very comparable speeds without the pad or extension boxes.

Check it,

When I saw the March Powerboat I had the dealer on the phone the next day to see if the one I had on order would have the new pad, they had no idea and put me in-touch with the rep. He told me that a correction was coming and that the pad would not be out till "04".

From the April 03, Powerboat mag. page 14

"Correction, A Performance Report on the Baja 33 Outlaw SST ("Bottom Line, Page 76, March 2003) incorrectly stated that hull modifications took effect for the 2003 model. It will occur later this year."

I was also told it would not take place until 04, and was also told the 30 probably would not be out until 04. I don't see a difference in speed on the pad boat, in comparason to a freinds 02 with ho's, I also don't see how that boat spun 30's seeing as my buddies only spins 26's 4700 at around 74
