Default 29 outlaw props

Has anyone ran a 29 outlaw w/6.2's with labbed props? If so what size prop and what gains were seen? My brother has a 29 with 6.2's and is thinking about labbing his props. He was curious what gains he could expect.

The question is what pitch does he have now? What is his rev limiter set at? Would he jeoperdize control for top end (four blade vs. 3 blade)? Tabs? I had a 29 with 7.4 mpi's. I believe that the h.p is similiar (310/320). I went to a 25 Mirage plus from a 23 mirage plus. Mercury racing trimmed the diameter a bit. I think roughly 1/2 inch. This set-up got me about 2-3 mph. Occasionally I had to drop the tab's because I would have a little "blow-out" when getting on it from a stand still. Mid range performance was good. I believe that the red line was about 4800. The set-up cost about $1500.00. If you do anything call Mercury Racing. Ask for Dennis Cavinaugh. HE IS THE MAN.

I have 2002 29 with 6.2 running 21 pitch 3 blades. Stock I would see 64.5 on gps @ 4950 maybe 5000 with 70 air in Jan. Fully loaded and 100 deg. in summer I would see 62 gps @ 4800- 4850

I had them balanced and thinned a little ( not much kid swims to much) and trimmed about 1/4 inch. Test day I hit 66.5 gps@ 5250 with 80 temps. I have not gps since. I hit the mark and am happy, I had to break 65.

No blow out. I think the boat actually plans faster because the props spool up faster now.

I do notice that the weight in the boat now makes a bigger inpact on speed than before labbing. Before labbing it really did not matter how much weight. I would only get 62 mph in the summer.

Before the lab job on 4th of July 2002 at LOTO I had full fuel cell and 7 people in the boat and it planned without tabs with no problems and still hit 62 on gps. Who would have thought?

6.2's should be running 4800-5200 rpms WOT, limiter at 5250.

Sounds like dstroyed has the set-up solidly nailed down. Good info.
