I would stay away from single 29's it is to big and to heavy, The boat just needs twins with a minimum of 454 mags

I have a 1999 29 Outlaw single. I have a 502 mag in it. Not the fastest boat on the water, but its fast enough for me. I have never really burried the throttle to see what it would do at top end. My guess would be lower 50's. My main cruising speed averages at 35 to 40 mph. The boat handles great at these speeds and the ride is great. When I bought this boat, I was looking mainly for a smoother ride as opposed to speed. I moved up to the 29 from a 252 Islander and it was night and day difference in the ride on rough water. I was also looking to stay about the same as my 252 on maintenance and fuel costs. I think I made a great decision. I have always taken care of my stuff and I have never run my boats hard. I would rather enjoy using it and not have to worry about maintenance issues because I ran the boat hard. My fuel cost are higher than my 252 was because I am pushing a bigger boat, but the fuel costs are not that much higher. If you are thinking of getting a single 29, by no means would I get one with a 454 in it, there are quite a few down at LOTO and I personally don't think the 454 is enough power for the 29 in a single set up. The 502 mag has more than adequate power to get up on plane and its acceleration is good from lower speeds. You need to ask yourself, if you want to go fast all of the time, don't get a single, but if you are looking for a good ride and lower maintenance costs go with the single. I personally can count on one finger that I pushed my boat over 48 mph. 48mph on the water is fast enough for me, especially down at LOTO. I thought I got a good price on my boat also, I bought it used last year complete with a matching heritage trailer, aluminum swim platform and k-planes for under 48k. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Thanks to you Big E, yes, I love speed, I considere that a 29 outlaw with a 502 mag and a pro-charger must be a good set-up. 650 HP on a 5750 pounds boat must push him near lower 70's. Greatings to all of you.
