Anyone have experience with the 292 Isl? I heard they had some listing probs that were fixed around 01. How do they handle rough water? Speeds with twin 6.2's? I wonder if one was ordered if some strings could be pulled for some 496's. I know Baja has done some custom stuff for other customers before. My kids are really enjoying boating now and we could have some serious fun on Mead and Havasu w/the 292. I wish they would offer the cockpit lounge seating with a closed bow. Other companies do, but I would like to stick w/Baja. Maybe I could procharge a single 496 HO and get some decent speed. Right now I am just thinking about this, opinions PLEASE! Thanks

We have been running our 292 with single 496 HO for about 2 years now. Great boat for the Family and Friends. Performance with B3 with 24P is about 58 Max. Not sure twin 6.2 get you much above 65 per discussion with dealer. I think twin 496's would be a tight squeeze on this boat and if you see one with 6.2 you will understand. Not much room to do any type of work. Boat runs well in rough water (we run galveston bay and offshore on a regular basis). Over all very happy with the boat, but if you have the need for real speed I would not suggest the 292.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, good post. I understand that I am looking at the wrong boat for speed, but I would sacrafice a little for the kids. If I could see 70 with a blown 496 HO that would be cool. I don't know if that's possible though. I love the Outlaw, but I really want something fun for the family. I'm so torn....

OK, here's what you do. Get the Sonic 31 for you and the kids. Get a RIB (rigid inflatable) for the kids to play with. They're safer than wave runners and they can ski and tube off 'em.
Don't thank me.
