Post 252 ISLANDER

A friend of mine was at the Omaha boat show this weekend and is interested in a new Baja 252 Islander. He still likes the open bow. He currently has a 202 Crownline with the 454 MPI that runs around 65 on the speedo. Has not run with a GPS. He is interested in the performance of the 496 HO in the new Baja 252. How will the boat handle rough water as compared to the Crownline? Any recommendations?
Thanks, Jim

The 252 will make the 202 crownline pale in comparrison. It is a moderately heavy boat with a 24* bottom. It will handle rough waters with ease(To a limit, of course, it's a 25'er). Anyway, Family&Performance Boating Magazine just wrote a test article on the boat. The boat topped out at 62mph on the GPS with the base model 496(375hp).

I agree on the ride issue. The 252 will ride like a Cadillac compared to the 202 Crownline. My 24 Outlaw is just a little longer than a 252 when you include the swim deck and I have ridden in and next to a friends 202. There is no comparison. I can take 3 footers at WOT 62-64 mph. He's all over the place in a 1 foot chop. BTW my friends 202 does about 61mph with the 454/300hp. Also, tell your friend I've got a good deal for him on a 93 Outlaw.

Baja Runner,

Thanks for the punchup. No, have not tackled the throttle problem yet. The boat is 150 miles away in storage. Will take a stab at this spring and hopefully repair rather than replace.

Thanks, Jim
