How much do you guys pay for insurance?
And who is your carrier?
I dont have insurance on my boat yet and was
curious what it is going to cost me. I have
no foggy idea what it costs to insure this
thing?
Any clues?
Thanks
Jason
PS is it based on purchase price?
or something of the like?
Blue book value? ect?
Thanks
Jason

Jay - there are lots of threads out there on insurance - check the General Discussion Board.
Start with the "name" companies - Progressive, Allstate, Nationwide, etc. Also call BoatUS - a lot of people have insured their boats through them....
The rate is based upon numerous factors - experience, type of boat, deductible, replacement value, liability limits, geographic area, where you store the boat, where you keep the boat, etc., etc. It is difficult to say what the cost will be, but for comparison I have a 1995 Baja 272 Shooter insured with Allstate. My rates are approximately $750 per year, but I carry pretty high limits to protect my other assets (home, business, etc.).

Allstate, just under 500/year for 1998, 26' Baja Mach1. $100 deductible. Have had excellent experience with Allstate. Had boat bump against dock and broke the plexiglass windscreen. Had me send in quote, sent me check. Never even came out to look at the boat. Just a couple questions that took about 5 minutes. Can't say enough good about the service they gave me. And I get to talk with a person, no automated voice systems....

My insurance company asked "how much is it worth?" and "how much do you want to insure it for?". I guess in case you owe more than it's worth, like when you take a beating on a trade in.
Of course your deductible affects the cost, and how much you want to insure the trailer for, and having your outdrives insured may be an option, so you have some variables.
I'm insured for $37,000 for $530 a year, $500 deductible. National Marine Underwriters.
