Hi. I'm new to this forum so I'll go ahead and appologize if this question has already been asked. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2002 25 Outlaw with the 375HP version of the 496. Can someone tell me what to expect as far at top speed? The dealer says 68 MPH. Is that about right? Anything else I should know?
Thanks
Sam

I've got the 496 MAGHO (425HP) and I get 68-70 on GPS. Speedo says 70-75 so don't trust it, use a GPS. I don't know what kind of speed with the 375HP but I love the boat.

The dealer is full of crap. Maybe with the 496 HO it will go 68 in salt water. It will GPS at 61-63mph most likely. I have a 24 Outlaw with about 420hp and it runs 64 on a good day.

The hull of the 24 and new 25 are different so they cannot be compared in speed. I boat in fresh water and consistantly see 68mph on GPS. 70 with a light load and good chop.

I've got a 95 24 Outlaw 550 Whipplecharged H.P. It runs 73 mph on GPS. Baja's take alot of horsepower to move them. I agree with Griff. Realistically looking at low 60's.

Depending on your situation, I would hold out for one with at least a 496HO. I don't think you will be happy with the regular 496. It is not as robust as the 454mag that it replaced - not just in H.P. but also in terms of internal parts ( non-forged crank etc.). It's top RPM is only at 4600. This is just like the anemic 7.4L that they no longer make.
I have HO's in my boat and I love knowing I have that extra punch to run them up to 5100rpm if needed. That comes in handy when the guy running next to me thinks I've got nothing left. I know I still have that extra 500rpm on hand to punch him out and blow on by!!
