Default SPOT Trackers and Devices

Have not had anything bad to say about SPOT for the years I have used them. Recently sold the boat I was ‘tracking’ and called to cancel the service. They alerted me that since my annual renewal already passed, they cannot pro-rate a refund.

Let’s be frank here, I could care less about the refund. The money is not important in the grand scheme of things. But to tell me that they won’t pro-rate a refund just got under my skin.

So for all of you considering tracking options for your boats, check out all teh options and possibly consider the cancelation policies. I know that I will not be using SPOT again in the future.

My buddy had satellite tv/internet on his flybridge motoryacht and when he sold it they told him he had like a 3 yr obligation left. He ended up cutting a deal with the new owner and they split the cost of the remaining service. He was shocked they wouldn't just cancel it out since he had already sold the boat but in the end he was just thrilled to be done with the boat in general.

i recently switched from the spot to garmin inreach (2 way messanger) after spot raised the annual fee, and was able to get my spot subscription refunded at a pro-rated rate. It was only 4 days into the new billing year, but they gave me everything back but the $5. I did have to ask for a manager and explained my situation.

Have to admit that if I had sold my boat within a few days of renewal, they would've considered it. Mine renewed at end of January. It's really just the principle. I understand their business decision. It's just chapped me.

Garmin is becoming my go-to solution. Just installed a Garmin GPS in the Gladiator. Upgrading my 360 camera from 360Fly to Garmin Virb 360. Now I will likely use a Garmin tracker instead of SPOT.

Hi ADK,

dont have ave a Garmin part number. However, others on this site might have some input.

I did just just order the Garmin VIRB 360 camera yesterday. Seems like they might have the best portable consumer 360 camera on the market.

Perhaps their trackers are just just as good.
