The scoop is a Harwood scoop. It is physically attached and sealed to the carberators. Air is forced into the scoop and creating positive air pressure the faster you went. Kind of like a turbo charger. My hatch was a U shape where scoop stay on the engine.
Another stupid thing I did was get CMI big tube headers which I had to cut my transom higher and bigger. Then I had to fill the old holes. I removed everything in the cabin except the carpeting which lightened the nose.

A smaller boat is appealing to us for two reasons, water sports and the size of our local lake. We can only hope one of our boating friends (RainorShine) pulls the trigger this year on a 36 Cat so he can give me a ride.

Just keep you eyes open for a used 502. I was running a small block for years and just waited patiently for the right deal to come along. Found a sweet 502 in NY with light mods and very low hours. 548 hp on the dyno.
