Prop for 251 Convincor w/540 bbc
I'm new to the site and was hoping you guys could help me out with my prop selection. I'll be dropping in a new 540 bbc (about 600 hp) into my 1991 251 Convincor. I have a Bravo1 drive with 1.50 ratio. I would like to run around 5500 rpm at WOT. Anyone out there with a similar boat and power? What kind of speeds are you seeing? What prop are you running and are you happy with it?
thanks
thanks

I had a 97 253 with 560+ hp. The hydromotive seems to work best on the non-stepped Convincors. I ran a 26 labbed 4 blade Hydro and also had a 27p stock hydro. both ran the motor around 5300 in the upper 70 - 80 mph range.

HiPerf2000, thanks for the reply.
I know the beam on the 253 is wider than the 251. Does the Hydromotive work similar on the 251?
Anyone out there with a 251 that can comment?
Thanks

I had a 1999 251 but I only had an HP500 Carb motor. I had a 3 blade Mirage Plus (25). I had an XZ upper with the sportmaster lower short drive. The boat ran great at 40+. Under those speeds I needed some trim in order to keep it from porposing. The boat did run 75 GPS all day everyday. If you call hydromotive, they are very familiar about the 251 checkmate and they can answer question. You can also get your peops labbed there for 200.

In 99 Convincor was a 259 model. All models are supposed to run great with the Hydromotive prop because of the transom lift that it provides. Checkmate made the 251 convincor in the 80's and early 90's, they then changed it to the 253 and then the 259 which they now call the 270 convincor which includes the swim plateform

Magic, Cigrocket's (formerly Checkrocket) boat was a 251. Think they were calling it a 251 Classic. It was the 251 hull, and a real nice set-up with that HP 500 power. See the classified section, boat is listed there again.

Thanks for everyone's reply - looks like the Hydro works best.
Kelly O, what power did you have in your 251? What speeds?
I had a 454 Mag with some upgrades. The boat ran 72 on GPS with a 23 Mirage at 5400 RPM. I dropped a valve and the rest was history. Am having a 540 built by Gellner Engineering in Cleveland Ohio. Should make about 600 hp. Looking to push the boat in the low 80's.

The 251 was offered in 1999. In fact you can have any boat made, checkmate has all of the molds. Just becasue its not in their catelog. (9) 1999 251's Convincor Classics were sold in Syracuse before the dealer went to jail for stealing and book juicing. I toured checkmate in 2004. They still build 251's on request. In fact the boat I owned is in the classifieds. The owner blew up the drive and put a new one on. It had the XZ with sportmaster shorty on it with the fat shaft upgrade, but it all depends on the driver.
