Value??? 1994 Checkmate Convincor 283
Looking for a little help from the experts. Just got word of a 1994 Convincor 283 for sale on triple axle trailer. I am going to look at it this weekend. The boat belongs to a friend of a good friend of mine. The story goes (and most stories this good tend to be false) this friend of a friend (lets call him chuck) bought the boat with a bad motor. Took the boat to get looked at it and he only needed to out about $1800 into it. Something about the flywheel but I am getting second hand information. Anyhow, "Chuck" needs some cash and quick. Tells my friend he will dump the boat for $8000 on the trailer.
Two questions. What is this boat worth running? And is $8000 still a good price with a bad motor? One more question I guess. What would be a realistic dollar amount to repower with nothing crazy, just reliable?
Thanks for you help.

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. A complete non- running 283 on trailer would bring 20K and up any day of the week. If this is the true price, check for salvage history (Katrina & insurance). I have been on many wild goose chases looking for special/exotic cars and boats that turned out to be rather dissapointing upon personal inspection. If it is true, put me on the "I want it list"-right behind Jeff.

It is a fresh water boat it's whole life. Single engine and I don't know about the drive. I'll have to find that out when I look at it.
As far as the condition, until I see it I can't verify, but I am told the original owner kept it inside since day one. The guy who has it now (chuck) has it outside (for approx. 8 months) but covered.
