Checkmate speeds

I know what you are saying. I did see 71 now I can't get it that fast. I do have the 385. I figure after the plugs are changed and I put high test back in it, I should see 71 again. Where I boat now only has regular gas. They do not even offer a "plus" gas. If mine was off as much as yours is, then I would think something is wrong. What rpms can you get to?
Enforcer, what you said in your post, is what has been explained to me before. Somebody told me it was running "downhill"????? or something like that.

I think I weigh around 4500???. The weight has to be close to what your weighs. Did you read the post by Enforcer? It makes sense as to why I have not seen the 71 again. It does sound like somethig is wrong on your end, if you are running it out to 4800-5000. I can't believe the manifolds that I installed could make that much difference. I will need to check what size prop I am running. I have will not be able to find that out until next week. The boat is still in PA at the lake. Maybe the 10 extra horse power makes that much difference.........

i know im told that the 496 has some restrictor in the manifold thats good for maybe 1 mph, and it comes with the nice elbow style in place of the old 454 flat style, but i dont know.
its strange. id like to get a weight of the boat and see, the boat spends all summer in the water, i wonder if it soaked some water into the hull and is now 5000 pounds or somthing?

I saw your post in the genral forum. Yes, i am running a 3 blade. I am fairly sure it is a 23. I am trying to find the one prop I have laying in the garage. It is is the 23 then I have the 25 on the boat. But with the speeds I have been able to get, i am fairly sure it is a 23 3 blade mirage. I don't know if that helps you any. I am actually thinking of putting a 4 blade on for next season but all of this talk is having me doubt that........

I know a guy with a 97 or 98 25' Checkmate - Convincor.
Stock carbed HP500 and standard bravo. He said it ran 80 on gps.
This thread has me scratching my head.
Was he bsing me? How much does a 25 Checkmate weigh and how fast does it truly run with an HP500?

Absolute BS!! It took me 720 hp to get to 85 mph. Even then, condition and load have to be perfect to get 85, more likely, 83 is achievable.

LOL. Guess I was a sucker. thanks for the info.
If I'm ever out on his boat again, I'll bring my gps and set the record straight. Great boat though.

72mph in ideal conditions. If another person is in the boat, water is flat, air temp above 85, etc the boat is running in the upper 60s. I agree with Vinny and some others 80mph with a carbed HP 500 is on the optimistic side.
