very cool shots , thanks for posting good to see a Checkmate offshore racing, just curious about your race layup. factory or yourself. im thinking the hull is production spec?? hand layed balsa cored.. race layup= hull and deck were glassed together and then extra bulkheads were installed. Checkmate builds a nice boat, good luck at the race.

Thanks! Yes its a factory race layup. It has a 1" raised X already and is re-enforced in the cabin area with 2 additional bulkheads. Could probably have used 3. We cut the factory bulkhead out and moved it forward like 12". It sure gives us plenty of room to pull the engine complete and maintain it!! Then we made a custom hatch to fit. Also wish they didnt use balsa! The boat got a crack in it and soaked the balsa with water. NOT GOOD!! But it runs well.

thanks John, for the great info. your right about the balsa, great stuff ,but can be a sponge. Solomons next weekend .good luck. hope to see some great air shots. i see your from curtis bay. i was dry docked there for a summer in 1981 while in the coast guard, lots of great memories of that area
