I run 24" eddie marine, i only use them to keep the boat stable at 60-70ish, I think yours are long enough, i thought of triming my at times.

Just be watchful of your drive and tab settings. The tabs you have are long . If you put longer ones on there, you will scrub off lots of speed and if overused you risk the possibility of handling issues like excessive bow steer. My tabs are 16" and are plenty long for my 283.

I added 4" to my tabs on my 300 with no problems. My boat has a nothed transom and the 16" tabs had to be at a high angle to bite. The extra length allowed me to run a flatter tab and perform better. I made my extentions one piece(20") for more strength out of ss. It's a b**ch drilling the holes but it looks good.

so you noticed a good diffrence. i will be making mine out of alumimum and thru bolting to the top of the existing ones. i really want to try them in the nuetral position, bow up, and see if they help planeing off at acceleration. really just trying to make the boat run bigger if you know what i mean...

Mine get a better bite now and it helps keep the tab more inline with the hull.

My 253 runs with bigger boats in rough water due to the tabs.

EXTERNAL STEERING IS A MUST and there is speed there

mount tabs higher. if bottom is correct them h20 will not touch them with increase length.
mount the paralllel to the outer chine.
blueprint the botom....there is a ton of speed there!
winter time raise the x-dim...there is speed there too!

What brand tabs did you start with? My 283 has Insta Trim tabs and I was thinking of extending them but am worried that the extra surface area and leverage would break the plastic rams or plastic hull mounts (especially at higher speeds). What speeds are you running and have you seen any sign of damage to the tab mounts?
Thanks.
