Default 242 convincor speed/rpm?

OK I bought my first boat a month ago and just have a few questions. Its a 96 242 convincor. It has a 454 mag that is carb and Bravo 1 with a high five 23p prop. Wide open I run 5k rpm and 60mph on the gps. I traded props with a buddy while out this weekend and with his mirage 3 blade 23p I take longer but can only get 4800rpm and run exactly 60 mph again. What are most guys running for prop and what rpm and mph. I'd like to get more speed but think I'll need more motor for that.

your could try a 25p 3 blade, or 24p 4 blade bravo 1, you may not have enough motor for those tho, youll want to keep your wide open RPM between 4800-5000, keep in mind if you have a full tank of fuel and a bunch of people on boat it will slow you down a lot, I figure every 120# is 1mph slower. and ive never heard of anyone running the high five prop, im not saying its wrong just not common.

Default just saw this post

have been away for quite some time now but have some experience with this hull.

i had the 454 non mag. 22 hydromotive q4 ran well at 56, a labbed mirage 23 ran best around 57.
i built a 502 at 550hp on the dyno. that ran 72-73 with the same 23 mirage but at 5600 versus the 4600 rpm
i then added a procharge (calculated 675hp) cant remember the boost but no more than 5psi for sure. boat then ran 81-82 with a 26 bravo at 5600. the 28 bravo ran very close at just over 83mph. i liked the performance overall with the 26 and ran that one most often.

hopefully some of this will help.

the hull likes to porpoise at midrange speeds with a 3 blade prop. the hydro q4 seemed to tame that down without using so much trim tabs and scrubbing speed and fuel efficiency.

i loved the boat thats for sure!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am rebuilding my 502 as we speak and I may procharge. I have the 97 model that has been converted to carb.

Have a 97 with the 330 and a 23 mirage. 62 is the best it will do. I have tried the 25 mirage plus a cannot get the rpm's out of it. Wanting to try a 23 mirage plus.
