WARPATH in Around Long Island Race August 22nd
If the course is rough, there will be a great race between the Chief WARPATH at 41 feet and the defending race winners from 2011, the 43 foot Outerlimits, with Joe Sgro and Joe Cibellis.
The Outerlimits is the canopied race boat that set the new World Speed Record at 180 something. Real open ocean racing won't allow those speeds for 271 miles, but they have a top end if they can use it. Maybe the people in the UN building will have a great view of a fast finish to the race as these two boats go by.
However, if the water is calm, there may be a cat or two looking to bring home the trophy and maybe a new speed record.
August 22nd in NY, come and enjoy the party and the race and meet some old racers while they are still around. Or follow it on the internet live. Every boat will have a satellite tracking device and can be followed live on the internet. The speeds are given in knots, so it will appear the boats are going slower than the actual MPH speeds.
