Stinger 390 verse Top Gun?
How does the Stinger 390 compare to the Top Gun? Any opinions on performance, quality, comfort, etc would be greatly appriciated. Thanks again

Re: Stinger 390 verse Top Gun?
I am fairly certain that the Cigarette is a better performing boat than a Stinger 390, however if comfort is a concern, I don't think there is a better performance boat in this size and price range ever made with the interior room and comforts as the Stinger 390. At least in a classic flat deck design. The cockpit is huge, as is the sun deck, and swim platform. The cabin has a forward v-berth, two 6'6" couches, two swivel chairs, a galley with fridge and sink, and enclosed head with sink. So far I am very happy with the room my 390 has, but as I have yet to run it or even float it I can not be a good judge of performance. Hopefully within the next few weeks I will be able to provide more info on that.
Good luck,
Todd

Re: Stinger 390 verse Top Gun?
I purchased the boat in May from the orriginal owner in RI. He ran it with TRS-400's for most of it's life. When they got tired he installed 2 gen V 454's and strapped on a couple of 8-71 blowers. Horsepower was around 900+ each and it was turning 28P bravo 1 props to top out at over 100 mph. She sat for 3 years inside until I found it. The engines ran fine but I figured they were ticking bombs, and I want reliability and longevity more then 100 mph. I found someone who wanted the blower motors for a Sutphen which he had 440 cyclones in it. We arranged a swap and the 440's are currently being rebuilt and are now almost ready to go. He is a performance engine builder and is going to rebuild the blower motors before he uses them anyway. They had about 150 hours on them. I figure the boat should top about 70 mph with the 440's turning 22p bravo 1's through the factory TRS drives.
The specs of the 1985 Stinger have a dry weight of 9760 lbs. Hull deadrise is 22 degrees. Holds 200 gal of fuel, 18 gal water and I installed a 6 gal holding tank. I have been working to restore it to orriginal cosmetic condition. The owner had made some minor changes to the look which I got rid of. There has been no shortage of projects but it is coming together nicely, and I'm looking forward to running it soon. Like I said, I would think the TG is a better performing and handling boat than the Stinger by a long shot, but if you want a cruiser type of performance boat, you really can't beat the accomodations the Stinger gives (not to mention the price tag difference)
Let me know if you have any other questions that I might be able to help you out with. These boats are getting more and more difficult to find. It took me quite a while to find the one I wanted. Enclosed are a few more pics of the boat, the old engines and the cleaned up and re-painted engine room waiting for the new ones.
