1987 Chris Craft - 41' Stinger
Anyone know either of these two boats? Is there anything you would be worried about? I have been shopping for awhile now, I am new to performance boats

I saw that auction on ebay this past weekend. I don't believe the boat with the curved windshield is a stinger - at least it doesn't look like any stinger I've ever seen.
The 39' stinger looks like it is in some bad shape - not sure how much it would cost to repair the 'glass work' done on the side of the boat. The interior is looking like it needs a lot of work too - I can't be 100% sure, but from the interior shot, there is a piece that runs width-wise on the ceiling to support the deck above, and it looks like it might be bent/warped, etc. There was a nicer 39' stinger for auction on ebay - check out item 140096446487.

My dad and I are looking for something around 38' plus that is decent may need some TLC for around $15,000 to $25,000. Not sure what make or model, we have looked at a few. Just looking for Help! and things to look for that are good and bad

The 41's and the 39's were almost identical boats. They added the integral platform to the boat in 87 and made it 2 feet longer. The hull bottom is the same. I have a 1983 Scorpion which is the same as the Stinger except with the raised deck for more headroom in the cabin. It also has a larger cockpit than the Stinger because they moved the windshield forward 2 feet. They all have the bottom from the Excalibur 40' Hawk. The design is a little slow. Mine runs in the low 70's with twin 630 HP 540's. When it had the 420's it was around 56 mph. If you are seriously looking, drop me a line. Wife thinks I should sell it since I bought the Black Thunder.

I got the Hull# from the 41' and ran a Boat History report. all came back clean but I have a few questions. That seems to be wrong Length is 42', Beam is 15' that can not be right and the Gross Ton are 14 and Net tons 11. to me that seem way off. In the description it says 9' Beam. legal road width is 8.5' have you guys ever had a DOT problem pulling these wide boats? Anyone know the wet weight of this boat? I am thinking around 12,000 lbs. Will Chris Craft give me any information if I call them?

Dug through my old mags, etc. No test in 86 or 87 on the 390 or 410. Powerboat did the 312 those years. I do not have a 1986 or 1987 brochure. I do have the 1985 brochure with the 390X. In 1985, the specs. were, length 39', beam 9', weight (boat only) 9760 lbs., fuel capacity 200 gallons, fresh water capacity 18 gallons, add 2588 lbs for 2-370 Mercruisers or add 2560 lbs. for 2-400 Mercruisers. These specs are almost identical to my 1983 specs.
Never had a problem towing, or with the Black Thunder at 9.5' wide. Just make sure your trailer is only 8.5 wide. The biggest concern if towing a lot is, if you get in an accident, will your insurance pay if not properly licensed and permitted?
