Default tow vehicle for 1984 stinger 260

Looking for advice on a tow vehicle. Was thinking about purchasing a new Ford Expidition that can tow a max trailer weight of 9,200. What is everybody else using to tow their stingers?

thanks,
Han.

Anything 3/4 ton will be fine, a 1/2 would do it but a 3/4 has a lille extra beef.

I tow mine with either a 3/4 ton big block Suburban or GMC CC dually big-block. IF you use a half ton truck, better have very good working electric or electric over hyd brakes. I would not recommend a half ton tow vehicle for a 260. Dry weight with no trailer is 5200 lbs. Add a trailer, half tank of fuel, a few meager boating accessories and your probably pushing 7500 lbs. or more. I would think that would exceed most half ton truck ratings. I know the proper tongue weight would. Remember that those tow ratings include the weight of you, your passengers, your gear, and then the boat and trailer. Besides, just because a vehicle can get the load moving and pull it, doesn't mean that you can stop or that it is especially safe to tow that much with it.

well equipped a half ton would do. 5.3 engine not 4.8. right gear ratio, good brakes on trailer and if needed, torsion bars, and you are good to go. I pulled mine weighing 9000 pounds full of gas, and ran fine... Of course, 3/4 or 1 ton is always better! but these trucks are generally rated, depending on options, between 7500 and 8500. the new GM'S 1/2 ton could now tow 10000 no problem according to books, so... hope it helps!

Thanks for all of the advice. From Ford's website it says with the optional heavy-duty trailer tow capacity the Max GCWR is 15,000 and the Max Trailer Weight is 9,200lbs. This expedition comes with a 5.4L V8 with a 3.73 axle ratio. Seems like it could pull the boat. The trailer I have is aluminum with electric over hydraulic brakes. Didn't want to consider anything bigger as I don't have room for a larger truck.

I have a 97 Expedition 4WD
It tows excellent and draws the boat out of the water in 4LOW very easily.
I have a class 4 Reese on the back with the factory seven prong plug.

That is about the same weight as my 245 limited. Chevrolet 2500 w/ 6.5 Turbo Diesel pulls it perfect.
I would not want to try with a 1/2 ton unless it was like the new F-150 that is more like a 3/4.
