Adding EFI
I just bought a cafe racer and i have taken the boat out a couple of times. I love the boat. But when i am idling the motors will die on me periodicly. I took it to a mechanic and they tuned the motors up. The y also said that the 502 carborated motors are hard to idle and will load up on you becuase of the cams the mercruiser put in. Would it be worth it to add EFI to these motors? Can someone help me with this problem.

Time to find a new mechanic.
There are plenty of carbureted engines out there that will idle all day long without dieing. Even engines that have much more radical camshafts,

Re: Adding EFI
I have idled my 502 carborated motors for 15 years at 600 rpm and they never stalled. I really question the knowledge of this mechanic.I really feel the stock cam is very conservitive.

jeff keep in mind there are also good and bad carb guys, one of my engines would load up and die swapped carbs and the problem followed the carb. took it to 2 shops still had the same problem, found a good ole boy dirttrack engine builder, he found the problem within 1 minute without taking anything apart. engine idled perfect when i put the carb back on the next day. i took him the other to go thru for good measure. when he did the first carb he said "go try it if it works like it should come back and pay me"...whens the last time that happened to anyone.
