Default Cig Newbie Questions

Folks:

Thinking of moving up to a Cig. Just getting started. Have spent quite a bit of time poking around here, trying to educate myself on the line. My budget has me looking at preowned 38 TG's. I just came across this 1993 that falls close to my budget.

From the pics I've seen, and speaking to the current owner, the boat is very clean and seems to run well. 60-63MPH seen with these motors.

What the owner says:
- 502 Mag EFI's. New in 1998. 250 hours on each. Not sure if Gen V or Gen VI.

- Bravo I's. Stock. Also new in 1998. Let's presume 250 hours on them. Note the lowers have been painted.

- All new interior within the last 60 days.

- All new Livorsi gauges in the same timeframe.

- Graphics are updated 2006. Paint on vinyl.
- Entire boat was re-painted white (owner says the boat was all-white since new.
- Hull is non-step. Owner says it looks like new.

My quesitons:
1. Generally speaking, how much a difference between non-step and step hull. When did the 38 TG go to a stepped hull design?

2. My understanding is that these motors can see 400 hours before rebuilds....if properly maintained. True?

3. What would you guess as value as-is..without a trailer?

Looking for some candid perspective from the experts in here. Fire away. Looking for negatives.

Much appreciated.

1. 8 mph and $$$$ / 2000 or 2001
2. I would agree with that
3. No idea but compare shop here in the classified, speedwake and on Boat trader Online.

Hope this helps.

Talk to Hugh, "Poolwhore" he's selling a very nice Gun at a GREAT price with a good history.

Agree with GLH on all your questions.

Good luck and keep us informed.

do a complete survey with compression check and sea trial
I used Ed cozzi, from the pics, it looks like miami beach marina, Ed is out of that neck of the woods.
call a good finance company and insurance company and they will give you a REAL VALUE for the boat
good luck, you cant go wrong with a cig

This boat is now on ebay. I'm doing the same search... I saw Hughes boat that Tank is reffering to a couple of weekends ago ... he's in Huntington Beach. It's in extremely nice shape. What other's have you seen? I know this one just sold to BIGGUN that was in Miami ...same year w 496s and Bravo

Watch out for that Johnny Marshall guy!

Mr I2D, what are you up to?? You have come to the right place for info on CIG's.. Lots of experts in here.

Like Tank said, there is a pretty clean Top Gun located in Newport Beach (Hugh's) that you might want to take a look at..
