Default Transom assembly's???

I have an 88' Bullet with 502's MPI and Bravo I drives. I need to replace both transom assemblies due to sloppy gimbals and corroded transom plates (water inlets shot, etc.) and I see that I have the HP transom assemblies.

Did the Bullet come from the factory with HP transom assemblies?

Do I have to replace them with HP's running stock 502's, or can I use the standard assemblies? The standard Bravo I assemblies are more available and cost less.

Thanks for the help.

Bullets as far as I know did not come with that. I just got done doing that late this summer. The new gimbal housings appear to be different. The look wider the ours. The bottom anode studs are no longer used. They now use steel studs throughout. I would definetly go with the HP gimbal ring kit. Replace the 2 Mercathodes on the botom of the assy.
The only thing I did for longevity was re-spray everything in Imron. Any questions I'll be happy to walk you through it.

Do you think most Bullet owners are running the HP transom assembly? I am sure the HP's are better, but do I really need them with stock 502's?

Thanks

It's cheap insurance. If your going to keep the boat for a while I'd just do it. It's not's that much more dollars and cents. While everything was off the transom I painted it. For some reason the gel coat was so pourous & was a PIA to keep clean. I have all the part numbers for you if needed. Are you doing all the work your self ?

Stan - yes I will be doing the work myself. As far as I know, there is only one HP Bravo I transom assembly. I am finding they are a little bit hard to come by, and those that have them want about $1000 more each than the standard Bravo I assembly. Seems like the only folks that have them are larger shops that are willing to buy new engine and drive packages, and then separate them (part them out). I agree, it is a better way to go, especially with the weight of the Bullet.

If you can find a deal as above it may be the way to go. I may know someone that has a pair off a '04 Fountain fresh water use.

the smartcraft transom assembly has replaced the HP assembly so now they are all HP, but you may be able to find someone with leftover stuff...

I would by new...you'll be glad you did...

If you order the HP gimbal ring kit your getting the bellhousing as well. Nothing better than new as Sean said.
