39 Top Gun or 42 X
I am looking to trade up to a 39 Top Gun or 42 X with 700's. Is their anyone that has either of these boats and can shed any light on the differences between the two boats. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks TJ

3 feet.........
Seriously, both are staggered set ups, both will KILL big water, I think the 39 would be a little faster with the same engines. I am not sure if there is a difference besides the 3 feet.

I think it was posted somewhere about the cabin height of the 42X being pretty low/short in comparison if that helps ?!?
Can't go wrong with either, but the "investment" is probably wiser on the 39 and there is a low hour beauty in the classifieds in the low 400's just wating for a new owner

cockpits both about same size, 42x's is deeper though. a little extra room in engine compartment and bow is where the extra 3 feet goes. there is some difference in bottom design. there is a very small 1" step aft of the 2nd larger step. supposed to provide a little more stern lift, ease of planning etc.. father has a 42x with 700's and been in a 39 before with 700's. 42x tops out at 98 for us. 39 does like 107-108 or so. 39 feels more agile and not really much smaller so if you really need the extra boat for the seas you boat in i'd say stick with the 39. both are sweet obviously.

I talked to a guy who worked for Cigarette up till May of last year, and he stated that the 42 hull is one of the worst hulls they make. (something with the steps and the center of gravity, and bad efficiency) might want to investigate a little.

I've heard the xp's had issues but not the x's, still worth looking into.
