From my perspective, I look at the Hustler as a production boat and the Cigarette as a custom built boat.
I am sure that you can make some changes to the Hustler along the way but building a new Cigarette is like commissioning a work of art. Just about every detail, sans those that make a Cigarette a Cigarette, can be built to my specifications. Options are endless based on my budget and the time I have. The process of building my boat to my specs is very important to me.
As funny as it is, in addition to knowing how well they perform and hold up to rough water abuse, I am equally convinced that Cigarette will be around when many of these other builders may not be here. It seems like so many of these boat brands are recycled when times are good and discarded when times are bad.
While the argument around resale value appears solid based on an even percentage for depreciation, I just don’t think it works like that. It appears to me that a well cared for Cigarette will carry less depreciation by percentage than a lesser boat.
I don’t mean to sound down on the Rocket, I am sure it is a great boat. I just don’t see Hustler as a brand in the same league as Cigarette or some of the other Custom High Performance Builders.

I would of liked to drive it, but it was winter and out of my price range. The carpet padding was like walking on air, I liked the way the dash was layed out, bumper holders in the engine compartment and cabin was finished. The "frig" wasn't up to my standards, but not many people use them or the bathrooms anyway.

I think most people when comparing the two are thinking the ride of a 388 vs the Cig.Giving there opinion those too
So for a person to give a opinion they would of had to rode/driven a 39 Hustler or know a person that has rode in both.
The Cig does have more of a custom look,I would say both would be close enough in speed with the same drive package.Max speed with 700's? I would think most people would do the Whipple upgrade and then think which one would handle the extra speed??
I havent driven a 39 Hustler so dont know the ride. But ive driven a 38 and 42 Cig and they are a better ride in the ruff. And the 38 Cig wasn't but a couple mph diff than the 388.
Are you looking at new build or a used boat?

I love that Hustler it is beautiful and I would consider it if speed and comfort where my top reasons for buying something. To me that is undeniable. But if I was gonna go pound on it in rough water and was looking for resale I would go with the Cig, to me this undeniable as well Cigs and Outerlimits have it locked up on resale and build and rigging is still among the best in the boating community.
