So, when we bought the boat it was beautiful, like over the top nice. So nice I didn’t even want to use it (joking, kinda). One thing that wasn’t so great was the trailer. It’s a 99 pacific steel trailer custom built for the boat. It’s never been in the salt so it’s actually structurally in good shape. I thought at first I wanted to have a myco or CTS or Evolution aluminum made but then nearly threw up when I saw the quotes. And the custom trailer place we use wanted nearly that much to fully restore the pacific. I put new disc brakes and tires in it for the tow out. I figure at this point I’ll just keep it without spending too much money on it, because it’s going in the ocean. Three weeks ago had a bunk break so I just had them put all
new bunks on. Figure with dunking in the salt I’ll get 4-5 years out of it like I did my last steel trailer I used in the ocean.

so, the point of this post. The paint was chalky and that bothered me. I deep dive into YouTube and discovered two ways to deal with it. One is a cutter type wax for single stage paints. The other is burnt linseed oil.

I did the cutter on one fender and I gotta say, it’s work. But came out pretty good.

then I used linseed oil on the other fender. A lot easier but I’m guessing won’t last as long. But man it looked good so I just did the whole trailer in it. lol. We’ll see which fender lasts longer.

surprisingly the linseed oil
doesnt leave an oily residue. It dries which kinda surprised me.

funny, I saw that stuff. It’s the same color and consistency as the burnt linseed oil.

Believe it or not the oil will help protect it from the salt water as well. Just reapply it after three or four dunks and with a fresh water rinse and you will be surprised.

That’s kinda what I was thinking / hoping. Last steel trailer I had that started to chalk Up I used lithium spray grease to coat it. Worked good for extending the paint life a couple years.

Using Penetrol to make a chalked fiberglass boat shine was a common cheap fix for used boat dealers. On fiberglass the shine didn't last very long.

added a little bling to RWTD courtesy of Lip-Ship. Thanks Marissa and Phil.

always love the custom cigarette keys they sell. I’ve had them on all our cigs. The look and feel is fantastic. It’s the little things!!
