97 Kevlar Top Gun build Up!
With the addition of 345cc AFR alum heads ,JE pistons ,Comp cams rollers etc, our 300hr 600SCs will now be a Conservative 750 + hp each and will now spin a 30 prop in place of her 26 4 blades..
I have searched this forum high and low and still need drive advice.
I don't want to go with #6s in place of my stock Bravos,do I need torsion bar shafts? Will extension box's change my great ride? Can my Bravos be beefed up and live? Konrads? Anybody have a similar set up that doesn't eat drives?
The existing set up planes right out ,nets us 82.5 GPS mph if it's choppy enough and and rides great.
We have a serious oil temp problem especially on our Starboard motor after a few minutes between 4000 and 5400rpms.So in as much as the motors need to be pulled we decided to bump them up a bit, other wise I wouldn't mess with a good combo!
Any drive advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance! Glen

Sounds like Max Machine is well respected as far as Bravos go. Just upgraded 3/4 of my hardware to their stuff on my Formula 382 with 650 H.P. this summer, but haven't got enough time on them yet to see if they will hold up. I'm at 10,400 dry weight, you should be less.
Might want to check for blockage in you oil cooler on the one motor. Might have some chunks from an old impeller in there.

Thanks RedDog,
I have been out of the boating seen for 20+ years and that was a single outboard flat bottom, my Gun is my first large performance boat and i'm hooked.
I have spent my free time building and racing blown alcy race cars.
It seems that not much has changed in the boat drive department, the power part is simple, but it seems that unless you want to spend as much as the motors on drives ,were pretty much out of luck!
I am leaning toward the Konrads for my application unless I can find a similar combo that is worked well for you veteran boat guy's.
Thanks! Glen

Yes, I built the 1997 Lip Ship Top Gun. Cigarette was almost closed. Neil Hernandez and I hired all the best riggers and built 7 TG's in 1997. Craig hired the laminators to build the parts, My company CRT Service finished them. They are some of the best built boats ever made. I was personally on them every day to ensure perfection. I don't want to sound like a snob, but my 14 years at Cigarette I demanded perfection. I cant tell you how the boat is now, but it was perfect then. The engines where very strong.
As far as the second one same. Neil and I put allot of individual attention to all 1997's, more than others because those where only 2 of 7 we built the entire year.
Have Fun
Thank You,
