He was the winner beating Toleman and Copeland.
This CUV 38 was the sister boat of Alitalia Uno that won in Mar Del Plata in 1978. It was builted by CUV in 1977 for Guido Niccolai and named Alitalia Due number 39.
Niccolai then renamed it Dry Martini in the 1978-80 season where he was placed second in the World Championships in Venice in 1979.
In 1981 the rookie Renato Della Valle bought it from Niccolai.

About others tin boats,two from Picchiotti shipyards of Viareggio in 1981 drove by the florentians bank manager Guido Niccolai.
They was the last Dry Martini.
35' at Viareggio-Bastia(shortened to Gorgona because the rough sea)-Viareggio in july 1981. Throttleman Jack Stuteville.

The new 38' that won the VBV edition under tornado's storm in 1982 with Cesare Fiorio.

One tin boat with the most original propulsion system come in the 1972-75 from the Italian idrojet factory Castoldi.
The owner,Franco Castoldi,ordered a 37' sister boat of the famous Shead's Unowot(former 1971 Sopwith's Enfield Avenger) to the Enfield shipyards and run some races in 1972-75 powered with a classic couple of MerCruiser but with the hydrojet on the stern. Castoldi Jet won only a race in San Remo but it was a very interesting idea.

Jack Kramer told me the story on Eric's Reality before its first race, which, if memory serves me right, was at Atlantic City. He made a point of showing me the canopies which he attributed to Ben...They were from a "Jump Jet" (British Harrier) rather than from F-16's as were most of the others at that time....and since. The Harrier's were steeper and according to Jack offered better visibility and a built in aluminum frame........
The canopy on Spirit of the Amazon was a Lavin type which was not created until well after Ben was gone.......
One other thing, I remember talking to Bobby Moore, who had rigged most of the 4 engine Superboats at that time and wondering if those boats would discourage racers with a slightly lesser budget, but a "top dog" ego from racing at all in Open Class........ As it turns out the 4 engine boats did drive out some of the other guys for a while.....until Peter's 46 Skater began running almost as fast with 2 motors...... as with 4....... sometimes faster.
